Anupam's 'Porichoy' celebrates humanity

Through the lyrics of the song, Anupam urges the listeners to identify oneself as a human being first, before anything else

Indian Bangali singer Anupam Roy released a new song on Thursday, titled Porichoy, on his own YouTube channel. 

Channel i reports that Anupam wrote the song in 2008. However, the release of this song coinciding with the volatile climate that persists in India, with protests against the new citizenship laws, has led to opinions in various Indian media that Anupam released the song now to send a message to his fans.

Through the lyrics of the song, Anupam urges the listeners to identify oneself as a human being first, before anything else. The lyrics of the song also speak about giving flowers to those who are trying to preach hatred.

The song's lyrics begins in Bangla with the following words: "If they want to identify you and ask you who you are, then joyfully reply that you are a human, which is the greatest fact."

Another sentence from the song also suggests: "Don't let the shackles of religion tie you down."  

Anupam shared the song on his Facebook page with the caption: "Greetings on International Mother Language Day to all my friends. Here is my new Bangla song Porichoy."

The post came eight hours ago, and till now it has received more than 1600 reactions from Anupam's fans. While the YouTube video itself has received 45,401 views since it was uploaded.

The music video was directed by Sandipan Parial. The DOP was Surajit Dawn and Sourav Chatterjee. And the video was edited by Debmalya Mukherjee.

Alongside giving vocals and penning the lyrics, Anupam also composed the music and played acoustic guitar for the song.
