Casting for Bangabandhu's biopic in progress

Fazlur Rahman Babu has agreed to join the cast to portray Khondaker Mostaq Ahmad. Tauquir Ahmed will play the role of Huseyn Shaheed Suhrawardy. Both of them have confirmed their casting to the press

The governments of Bangladesh and India are jointly producing a feature film based on the life and works of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. The casting for this feature film is currently in progress.

Acclaimed film-maker Shyam Benegal has been hired to direct this project. He came to Bangladesh on Wednesday to finalize the casting.

Veteran actor Dilara Zaman has agreed to play the role of Bangabandhu's mother Saira Banu. 

She said: "I am delighted to be part of this historic project. I have read Bangabandhu's memoirs and watched his parents' interviews. I am looking forward to playing this part."

Friday, Fazlur Rahman Babu agreed to join the cast to portray Khondaker Mostaq Ahmad. Tauquir Ahmed will play the role of Huseyn Shaheed Suhrawardy. Both of them have confirmed their casting to the press.

Fazlur Rahman Babu said: "I am happy to finally see a Bangabandhu biopic being made on such a large scale. Besides, Benegal is an internationally famed director. To be able to work with him would be a great opportunity for me."

Various sources from the Ministry of Information informed the press that the role of Bangabandhu will be played by a Bangladeshi actor as well. More artistes are currently being cast, with a few from Bollywood. 

Pia Benegal as costume designer, Shama Zaidi and  Atul Tiwari as screenwriters, and Dayal Nihalani as assistant director, have already been hired.

Although Bangabandhu's biopic is being made in Bangla, Hindi subtitles will be provided.

The film on Bangabandhu is scheduled to be released by March 17, 2021, marking his birth centenary.
