The third day of the second edition of Bangladesh Cultural Festival 2020, which was inaugurated on Friday, featured performances by artists from three districts including a folk theatre performance at Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy.
On Sunday, the third day of the festival started at 4 pm in the afternoon with the national anthem being played. Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy staged an acrobatic performance, special needs artists recited poetry and two dance acts were presented by the Bangladesh Academy Of Fine Arts under the direction of Farhana Chowdhury Baby.
Later, artist Ashraful Alam performed a solo poetry recitation and Bohnishikha presented two music performances.
Performances by nearly 5000 artists from more than a hundred organizations of 64 districts are to be featured in this 21-day festival. On the third day, Meherpur, Kushtia and Kurigram presented performances culturally unique to their districts.
Artistes from Meherpur performed a group song called Meherpur Amar Meherpur in order to celebrate the cultural practices and customs of their district.
Later, a group dance performance and a solo music act were staged. Two documentaries were screened to highlight the cultural history of both Kushtia and Kurigram districts.
More group songs, solo music performances and dance acts followed the screenings. Prominent cultural figure Rasheduzzaman Babu was present as a guest from Kurigram District. Notable dramatist Masum Reza and actor Samroj Azmi Alvi were the guests from Kushtia district.
Lastly, a Kushal Pala was staged, which told the story of gods and goddesses by incorporating legends, myths, fairy tales and folklore of various regions into the performance. Two characters generally perform the main roles in a Kushal Pala.
The character of Dohar serves to explain the main plot to the audience members as innovatively and simply as possible.
This 21-day festival strives to promote the diverse cultural heritage and ancient folk traditions of Bangladesh. It is an endeavour on the part of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy to celebrate, value and develop folk art and cultural knowledge.
