Director Nazmus Sakib Himel's diploma film Furniture has been selected to compete under the National Competition (short fiction) category of the 25th Kolkata International Film Festival.
The film, which is produced by Satyajit Ray Film and Television Institute (SRFTI), will compete for the festival's coveted Golden Royal Bengal Tiger.
The story of the film revolves around a family that migrates from a village to a small town, seeking better education for their children.
In their new neighborhood, they start feeling the social pressure of owning furniture to entertain their guests. The film portrays how the family deals with the new crisis, which is something they did not experience in their rural life.
Jyotika Joyti played Parvin, one of the leading protagonists of the film. The cast of Furniture also includes Deepak Suman, Debjan Paul,and Priyanka Jana, among others.
Naomi Alam was the executive producer of the film, while Saurabh Suman did the cinematography. Ritaban Basu did the sound and audio recording, and Vibhav Nigam edited the 24-minute long short film. The film was shot in November last year.
