A musical evening celebrating the European influences in Tagore’s creations will be held on Saturday, November 2, at 6:30pm at the main auditorium of the National Museum in Shahbagh. Directed by singer Lily Islam, the event will shed light on twenty of Tagore’s songs and stories that were written during some of his European expeditions.
The chief guest of the evening will be State Minister of Cultural Affairs KM Khalid. Several cultural personalities will be present as guests alongside Cultural Affairs Secretary Dr Mohammad Abu Hena Mustafa Kamal.
The organizer, Uttarayan, strives to highlight different aspects of Tagore’s music every year, Lily Islam mentioned in a statement.
“Tagore didn’t just travel; he mixed with the locals and learned their culture everywhere he went,” she said.
“The people, society, politics, and other aspects of those foreign lands are reflected in his writings.”
Himadri Shekhar is the musical director of this event. Bhashshor Badhapadhyay and Dalia Ahmed will recite poetry, while Uttarayan members will perform the songs.
The event is open for all.
