Bachchan, a 2014 West Bengal film, was released in the capital’s Star Cineplex yesterday. The five year old action thriller, directed by Raja Chanda, was imported to Bangladesh by Inn Win Enterprise under the Safta (South Asian Free Trade Area) agreement.

Iftekhar Uddin Naushad, owner of Inn Win Enterprise and Madhumita Cinema Hall, recently told the press: “We imported several films under the Safta agreement and one of them was Bachchan. We could not release it for a long time but now it is being released against Poloke Poloke Tomake Chai starring Bappy and Mahi, which was recently exported to Kolkata.”

The film, produced by Reliance Entertainment and Jeet’s Grassroot Entertainment, features Tollywood actors Jeet, Aindrita Ray, and Payel Sarker in lead roles.

It is an official remake of the 2011 Kannada film, Vishnuvardhana starring Sudeep, Bhavana, Priyamani, and Sonu Sood.

Film critic Upam Buzarbaruah of The Times of India rated it 3/5 stars and wrote: “Bachchan is a film you can watch if you like going brain-dead for a couple of hours after a hectic day. But it's an entertainer through and through.”

The film revolves around the character Bachchu aka Bijay, played by Jeet who is a diehard fan of legendary Bollywood actor Amitabh Bachchan, and maintains the surname of Vijay (Bacchan’s character in the superhit film Coolie).
