Aravind Adiga’s Man Booker Prize-winning novel The White Tiger will be adapted for the small screen by Netflix. The film will star Rajkummar Rao and Priyanka Chopra Jonas in the leading roles.
American film-maker Ramin Bahrani is the writer/director for this project. His credits include Man Push Cart, Chop Shop, 99 Homes, and Fahrenheit 451.
In Adiga’s acclaimed debut novel about caste, poverty and globalization, which was published in 2008, self-taught entrepreneur Balram Halwai pulls himself out of poverty by working as the chauffeur of a political fixer in Delhi.
Priyanka Chopra, who is also the film’s executive producer, said in a statement: “When I read the book, I was fascinated with the perspective of the narrative. The story’s portrayal of raw ambition and the extent one will go to achieve one’s goals is riveting.”
Priyanka’s new film The Sky is Pink will premiere today at the Toronto festival. The film also stars Farhan Akhtar and Zaira Wasim.
