The third edition of Global Youth Film Festival, organized by Cinema Bangladesh, is set to begin in Mymensingh with the slogan “Let’s Cinema!”
According to a press release, the festival will screen around 78 national and international films,. Festival organizers aspire to spread this festival across the country, after organizing two festivals successfully in Lakkhipur and Rangpur respectively.
Organizers are hoping that many international film-makers will grace the festival this year. The jury panel for the International Film category consists of International Federation of Film Critics (Fipresci) member Sadia Khalid, film-maker Mostofa Sarwar Farooki and Iranian film-maker Morteza Farshbarf. The jury will announce the names of eight award winning films at the closing ceremony.
The festival producer and young director, Hemanta Sadiq, informed that the organizers have added an award which is dedicated to the prominent film-maker of Indian sub-continent, Hiralal Sen. This is why many Bangladeshi films were submitted under the “Hiralal Sen Best Bangladeshi Film” category. Director Nurul Alam Atique, film teacher Zahidur Rahman Anjan and architect Enamul Karim Nirjhar are the judges of this category.
There will also be a workshop on filmmaking, which will be conducted by Golam Rabbani Biplab, film-maker Prashun Rahman, Jasim Ahmed and Shadat Hossain.
Three popular contemporary feature films will be screened for the audience under “Invited Films| category.
The festival will be held at the Shilpakala Academy Auditorium from September 5 to 7.
