Rock star Ayub Bachchu

The country lostone of the brilliant rock stars of all time, Ayub Bachchu, on October 18. The legendary singer, guitarist and songwriter popularized rock music in Bangladesh along with his band LRB (Love Runs Blind).
Ayub had been an integral part of the Bangladeshi rock music scene for more than 25 years. LRB is the only Bangla rock to have played their music at the famous Madison Square Garden in New York.
Film-maker Amjad Hossain
Collected: Facebook Renowned film-maker, director and actor Amjad Hossain passed away on December 14 at the age of 76.He suffered from a brain stroke and was hospitalized, and later taken to Thailand for further treatment.
Born on August 14, 1942 in Jamalpur, Amjad Hossain received multiple National Film Awards. He won many accolades during his nearly 50-year career in the film industry, including Agrani Bank Juvenile Literature Award, Bangla Academy Award and many more.
Film-maker Saidul Anam Tutul

Filmmaker and renowned actor Saidul Anam Tutul died on December 18. He was 68. Tutul suffered from heart diseases and was on life support at a private hospital in Dhaka.
In 1979, Saidul won the National Film Award as Best Editor for the film “Surja Dighal Bari.” He also worked on movies like “Ghuddi,” “Dahan,” “Dipu Number 2,” and “Dukhai.”
In 2017-18, Saidul returned to filmmaking after 15 years with “Kaalbela”. His last major work was “Adhiar,” which was released in 2003.
Photographer Anwar Hossain

Renowned photographer Anwar Hossain, aged 70, was found dead in his hotel room at Panthapath in Dhaka on December 1.
The legendary photographer and cinematographer lived in Paris with his family and was visiting Bangladesh as he had been invited to judge a photography competition.
Born on October 6, 1948, Anwar Hossain was known for his photographs of the Liberation War of 1971. He won a number of national and international awards for his photos and cinematography.
“Surja Dighal Bari (1979),” “Emiler Goyenda Bahini (1980),” “Chitra Nodir Pare (1999),” “Lalsalu (2002),” and “Shyamol Chhaya (2004)” are among the celebrated Bangla films where he was the cinematographer.
Actor Tazin Ahmed

Everybody in the industry was shocked at the untimely demise of the young actor, Tazin Ahmed,who died of a heart attack on May 22. Tazin made her debut on the small screen in 1996 with the drama, “Shesh Dekha Noy”, on BTV.
The popular actor worked in numerous other TV dramas and was also a successful anchor, playwright and journalist.
Sculptor Ferdousi Priyabhashini

Noted sculptor and freedom fighter Ferdousi Priyabhashini breathed her last on March 6. She was 71, and had suffered a string of health complications in the final months of her life.
Ferdousi was the first woman who had publicly announced herself as a “Birangana,” a term coined by Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman for the rape victims of the Liberation War.
Born in 1947 in Khulna, Ferdousi suffered inhumane torture by the Pakistani forces during the nine-month war.
Actor Rani Sarkar

Veteran film actor Rani Sarkar passed away at the age of 86 at a private hospital in Dhaka on July 7. She was suffering from old-age complications.
Born at Sonatola village of Kaliganjin Satkhira district, in her long career, Rani acted in more than 250 films, including “Chanda,” “Talaash,” “Bandhon,” “Sangam,” “Is Dharti Par,” “Paiose,” “Kaise Kahu,” “Azan,” “Kacher Deyal,” “Kach Kata Hire,” “Behula,” “Anowara,” “Chhoddobeshi,” “Bhawal Sanyasi,” “Titas Ekti Nadir Naam,” “Chandranath,” “Shubhoda,” and “Devdas”.
Singer Shammi Akhter

Legendary playback singer Shammi Akhter lost her long battle with cancer on January16. Shammi made her debut in playback singing with the film “Oshikkhito,” directed by Azizur Rahman, and lent her voice to about 300 numbers throughout her career.
Some of her most popular songs include “Bidesh Giya Bondhu Tumi Amay Bhuilona,” “Bhalobashlei Sobar Sathe Ghor Badha Jayna,” and “Chithi Diyo Protidin Chithi Diyo.” She received the prestigious National Film Award in 2010 for her songs in the film, “Bhalobashlei Ghor Badha Jay Na.”
Poet Belal Ahmed Chowdhury

Born on November 12, 1938, Belal was awarded the Bangla Academy Literary Award in 1984, Mazharul Islam Poetry Award in 2013 and Ekushey Padak in 2014.
He will always be remembered for his contributions to Bangla literature.
Dance Guru Bazlur Rahman Badol

Eminent dance artiste Bazlur Rahman Badol passed away on August 19 in the intensive care unit of a state-run hospital in Rajshahi.
Born in India's Jolpaiguri district in 1921 or 1922, after the Partition in 1947, he relocated to Rangpur and eventually moved to Rajshahi.
Badol received multiple recognitions throughout his career, including Shilpakala Academy Award and Shadhinota Padak, along with numerous other accolades by the Bangladesh Nrittya Shilpi Sangstha for his contributions to dance in this country.
