Joy Bangla Concert: An evening of roar and vigour

March 7, has always been a remarkable and significant day in the history of Bangladesh. On this day, the Father of the nation, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman stirred up his countrymen with his vibrant and rebellious speech. March 7, 1971 has ever since been a day full of vigour and ardour for freedom for us Bangladeshis.Mahmud-Hossain-Opu-8432Forty six years later, the Joy Bangla Concert brought back the spirit of the historic day for the youngsters of the country by presenting a refurbished version of some of the songs from the Liberation War. Created by Sujeo Shyam and his fellow musicians for the Swadhin Bangla Betar Kendra, the songs were made with the intent to boost the morale of the valiant freedom fighters and keep the hope for an independent Bangladesh alive. Listening to “Muktir Eki Poth Songram,” “Ore Shonre Tora Shon,” “Rokto Chai Rokto Chai,” and “Aaj Rono Saje Bajiye Bishan,” in the voices of leading rockstars of the country and their energetic composition, the youth of the country celebrated the day with a whole new vibe and spirit. The concert which was organised by Young Bangla, one of the largest youth platforms in the country, started around four in the afternoon with a presentation of our national anthem, and brought the curtain down around 12:30am in the night. The participating bands also performed some of their well-known tracks along with assigned ones. A coloured version of Bangabandhu’s speech’s AV was also screened at the event. Spondon 72, the first performers at the concert was initially a musical group which was founded by the eldest son of the Father of the nation, Sheikh Kamal. Members of the newly revived band performed “Joy Bangla Banglar Joy” from Swadhin Bangla Betar Kendro followed by two other tracks of their own. Later in the evening, Cryptic Fate took over the stage and started with “Otho Bir Bangali,” which  cheered up the audience. The band then carried on their performance with “Teerhara ei Dheuer Sagor Pari Dibo Re” along with some of their own tracks.Mahmud-Hossain-Opu-8787Next came Arbovirus, and performed “Soibo Na Soibo Na Mora Jonmobhumir Opoman” along with other tracks. A documentary on the activities of YoungBangla was screened after their performance. Shunno was next to rock the stadium with their famous track “Shoto Asha.” The band also performed Swadin Bangla Betar’s “Joy Bangla Banglar Joy.” Singer Elita Karim later joined the band. After the performance of “Sona Diya Bandhaiyachi Ghor” with the band, Karim said, “People like Sujeo Shyam created the path of motivation for us.” Nemesis picked things up right where Shunno left, as they performed “Rokto Diye Naam Likhechi” of Swadhin Bangla Betar Kendro apart from their popular tracks. “Jonmo Amar Dhonno Holo Maa” was the first song performed by Shironamhin. After performing “Mora Ekti Fulke Bachabo Bole Juddho Kori,” the vocal of the band, Tuhin played the speech of Bangabandhu from his cellphone. Lalon, who joined the grand concert for the first time, impressed the audience with “Rokto Chai Rokto Chai,” a track from the time of the Liberation War. The band then went on to perform several other songs of Lalon.IMG_20170308_202347When Chirkutt’s turn came, the band created a buzz in the stadium when they played the tune of our national anthem on the guitar. The band’s performance of “Emon Deshti Kothao Khuje Pabe Nako Tumi” enthralled the whole audience, as the historical places and lifestyle of Bangladeshi were being projected in the backdrop during the performance. The vocal of the band, Sumi then went on to wave the national flag in front of the audience. The grand event ended with the performace of Warfaze around midnight. The venue was full to the brim throughout the event, with an audience consisting of youngsters of the nation. Grandchildren of Bangabandhu, Saima Wazed Hossain, and Radwan Mujib Siddiq were also present among the audience till 11pm. Nasrul Hamid Bipu, state minister of the Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources, Tarana Halim, state minister of the Post and Telecommunications, Zunaid Ahmed Palak, state minister of the ministry of Post, Telecommunications & Information and Arif Khan Joy, deputy minister, Youth and Sports, and Nahim Razzaq, MP were also seen among the at the grand rock fest.
