The IDLC Theatre Festival 2018 (IDLC Natyautshob 2018) came to a close on Saturday at Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy in Dhaka.

National Professor Dr Anisuzzaman officially drew the curtains down on the festival. The closing ceremony was attended by prominent playwrights and renowned theatre artistes.

During the closing ceremony, four thespian couples – Sara Zaker and Aly Zaker, Ferdousi Mazumder and Ramendu Majumdar, Lucky Enam and Dr Enamul Haque, and Shimul Yousuf and Nasiruddin Yousuff Bachchu – were awarded with “IDLC Natyojon Shommanona 2018” for playing an essential role in the arena of theatre in Bangladesh.

Anisuzzaman handed over the crests to the thespians. Since Nasiruddin Yousuff was out of the country and Shimul Yousuf was ill, their daughter Esha Yousuf received the award on their behalf.

The festival was organized with productions from 10 most renowned theatre groups in the country: Prangone Mor, Dhaka University’s department of theatre and performance studies, Dhaka Podatik, Palakar, Bottola, Dhaka Theatre, Jahangirnagar University’s drama & dramatics department, Theatre, Prachyanat and Nagorik Natto Shomproday.

Speaking to the Dhaka Tribune, IDLC Finance Ltd CEO and MD Arif Khan said: “We are delighted to see such eager and spontaneous participation of audience. We are very thankful to all the audience and artistes who participated in the festival. I am extremely grateful to the honourable thespians for receiving the awards from us, and adding a new level of success to the festival.”
