Instead of screening films, Jonaki cinema hall in the Paltan area of the capital will air today's final match between Bangladesh and India in the Nidahs Trophy on the big screen.
The matter was confirmed by manager of Jonaki cinema hall Delowar Hossain on Sunday afternoon.
Delowar said that this was not the first time Jonaki was screening a match. Jonaki cinema hall authority often decides to air important matches during the football and cricket world cup.
In Delowar's opinion, the decision had to be taken because the box-office was not doing well.
"People from all over the country will be watching the Bangladesh vs India match," said Delowar. "From previous experience, I can say that during these times, nobody goes to watch films in the theater.
"That is why we have decided to air the match instead," he said. "At least we can cover up the miscellaneous costs in this manner."
Front seats to watch Bangladesh vs India's final match in the Nidahs trophy in Jonaki Cinema Hall will cost Tk70, while rear seats will cost Tk60. The gates will open at 7pm.
