Netflix announced three new Indian original series today: a futuristic adaptation “Leila,” a horror series “Ghoul” and a show aimed at young adults, “Crocodile.” These series join a larger slate of original productions from India including “Sacred Games,” “Selection Day,” and “Bard of Blood.”

We are thrilled to work with some of the world’s most talented writers and producers to bring these stories to life for India and the world.” said Erik Barmack, vice president of international original series at Netflix.
“Leila” is adapted from a novel by Prayaag Akbar. Writer and executive producer Urmi Juvekar tells a story set in the near future when a mother searches for the daughter she lost upon her arrest 16 years earlier. This inventive, boundary-breaking story centres on longing, faith and loss.
“Ghoul” is a horror series based on Arabic folklore. Written and directed by Patrick Graham, the series is set in a covert detention centre. Nida, a newly minted interrogator who turned in her father as an anti-government activist, comes to the centre to realise that some of the terrorists imprisoned there are not from this world. Starring Radhika Apte and Manav Kaul, this unique and gripping series, with a supernatural twist, traces Nida’s battle for survival.
“Crocodile” is a murder mystery set in Goa. Written by Binky Mendez, the story follows Mira, a girl on a mission to find her missing friend. She sets out on her own investigation, uncovering secrets among her friends, romantic relationships and community.
No air dates or deadlines have been announced for any of the shows.
