Despite the recent negative reviews, Will Smith starring sci-fi film “Bright” acquired a whopping 11 million views in the first three days of its release. The film is claimed to be the first big budget Hollywood grade feature film to be produced by Netflix.
The sci-fi fantasy cop action-comedy was made on a $90 million budget and was released and distributed online via Netflix, and in some selected theatres in the US from December 22.
According to a recent report by Nielsen Holdings PLC, a global information, data, and measurement company estimated that despite being savaged by critics, the film proved to be a popular pick among Netflix viewers in the US from December 22 to 24, gaining more than 11 million unique viewers. This is the second quickest viewer gain for Netflix since the release of second season of their popular series “Stranger Things,” which had gained an average of 15 million views per episode within its first three days of release.
The willingness of film fans to watch “Bright” for themselves has helped director David Ayer to gain an 89% audience-approval score on Rotten Tomatoes, despite having a poor 26% rating given by critics.
Netflix officials had already ordered a sequel prior to the film’s release, with Smith set to return in the lead.
The film stars Smith as a Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) officer forced to partner with a mystical orc, played by Joel Edgerton, to hunt down a nuclear weapon.
