Uncertainty looms over Bengal Classical Music Festival

Update : 15 Oct 2017, 07:21 PM
The fate of the Bengal Classical Music Festival 2017 is hanging in the balance as the organisers are yet to get any confirmation about the venue of the sixth edition of the much-anticipated event. The Dhaka Tribune’s Showtime Desk reached out to an official of the event’s organiser Bengal Foundation, who, seeking anonymity, said the foundation is still waiting to hear from the authorities whether Banani’s Army Stadium, the venue of the previous five events, will be available this year as well. In the previous five occasions, registration process for the audiences had kicked off from the first week of October. The performers’ list also gets finalised and published around this time as well. But this year, according to insiders, neither of these have been completed due to the uncertainty over the venue. Bengal Foundation declined to comment on whether it had any backup venue ready or at least in the process of finalising an alternative if somehow authorities refuse to allocate the Army Stadium. The official, however, confirmed that the foundation will hold a press conference to brief the media about details of this year’s event on October 22.
