After a storm of controversies around the beauty pageant, Jessia Islam was crowned Miss World Bangladesh 2017, while former winner Jannatul Nayeem was stripped of her title over allegations of submitting false information.
According to the event participation rules, a woman who is married or has a child is not eligible to participate in the beauty pageant.
Jannatul Nayeem kept her marriage a secret, which eventually led the judges to revoke her title.
Jannatul appeared on Facebook Live on Wednesday and congratulated Jessia for winning the title of Miss World Bangladesh 2017.
While talking to the media on Wednesday, Jessia said that Avril is mentally stronger than most women and definitely has the ability to succeed on other platforms.
Jannatul Nayeem gained her a lot of public support after her appearance on Facebook Live.
Sources have confirmed that Antar Showbiz had decided to hand the Miss World Bangladesh title to Avril without considering the judges’ decisions.
Jannatul was stripped of her title after her marital status became public and was made the brand ambassador of Lovello instead.
Jessia Islam, the first runner-up was crowned by Bibi Russell on Wednesday.
The 67th Miss World competition will be held in China on the November 18.
Jessia will compete with 113 other participants from all over the world for the international title. This is the first time a Bangladeshi woman is participating in an international beauty pageant of this level.
