Update : 22 Sep 2017, 10:18 PM
Hollywood actress Salma Hayek, a native of Mexico, is giving back to her home country — and revealed that she has also been a survivor of the recent Mexican earthquake, that killed thousands. The 51-year-old actress has posted a video recently, where she revealed that, after the 1985 earthquake in Mexico City, she was evacuated from her building. “A lot of friends died, including an uncle that was very, very close to me,” Hayek said in the video. She also added that she has lived through the aftermath of a disaster of this magnitude, after experiencing the 1985 devastating earthquake. Hayek is doing her part to gather donations for an earthquake relief in Mexico. She even started a crowd-rise campaign to help the families that are going through this nightmare right now in Mexico. As of publication, her effort has raised almost $314,000 and she would match the first $100,000.
As of Thursday morning, the death toll from Tuesday’s 7.1 earthquake was at least 250, according to Mexico City’s mayor, who spoke with CNN affiliate Foro TV.  Shocking images and videos from the destruction reveal the extent of the damage from the violent quake with buildings reduced to rubble, others on fire and thousands of people flooding the streets after fleeing their homes.
