App to complain against mobile phone services

Update : 06 Sep 2014, 07:54 PM

BTRC is developing a mobile application to help users file their complaints if any against telecom services.

The app will be first of its kind in the country and is expected to be available for use before CTO annual meeting from tomorrow, the regulator sources said.

It will be launched on android platform, but also available on Google app and other stores.

Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) is going to host 54th annual meeting of Commonwealth Telecommunication Organisation (CTO) in Dhaka on September 8-12.

“We are developing the application to offer better services to the telecom users. It will reach the users before the CTO meeting,” said Zakir Hossain Khan, Assistant Director (Media and Publications), told Dhaka Tribune.

However, the app will be fully ready to receive complaints in a couple of days after launch, he said.

According to him, some more time is also needed to synchronise with mobile applications and their website.

The application developer firm MCC handed over the draft app to BTRC on Sunday. Earlier in January, Dhaka Metropolitan Police developed an android application first time from a government wing.

But BTRC app would be considered first in the country, said SM Ashraf Abir, managing director of MCC.

The government has taken an initiative to develop 100 apps for the users. BTRC’s app is first among them.

In first week of August, MCC developed an application on Bangabandhu under 100 application projects.

But that application is yet to be launched. BTRC app includes many features including the history of BTRC, and its mission, vision and achievements.

A senior officer of BTRC said the initiative has been taken to take the government’s services to the end-users, monitor services provided by telecom operators and ensure rights of the clients.

Earlier in an event recently, BTRC Chairman Sunil Kanti Bose expressed his dissatisfaction over the management of customer complaints by the mobile phone operators, saying the operators mostly ignore the complaints or refer to the regulator.
