An unlikely family

Update : 17 Dec 2013, 04:35 PM

Baloo, Leo and Shere khan are bonded so deeply that they are named together as BLT.

Baloo the bear, Sher khan the tiger and Leo the lion are the three earthlings who are almost inseparable as they have been living and growing together like a family.

The adobe of these three is the Noah’s ark animal sanctuary of Georgia, USA. Uk based daily Telegraph reports.

Eight years ago they were rescued as cubs, they were under the harsh captivation of a drug lord.

The animal sanctuary provided them care and support to recover and stay together.

“We could have separated them, but since they came as a kind of family, the zoo decided to keep them together," said Diane Smith, assistant director of the Noah's Ark zoo.

Baloo who weighs almost a thousand pounds and His two other mates almost 350 pounds each are extremely strong, carnivorous and dangerous predators, who has the power to kill with a mere bite or swipe of their jaw, yet they never imposed any kind of threat to each other and shows their intense brotherhood.

"It is wonderful and magical to see a giant American Black Bear put his arm around a Bengal tiger and then to see the tiger nuzzle up to the bear like a domestic cat.” Diane exclaimed.

'"They eat, sleep and play together," said Jama Hedgecoth, founder of Noah's Ark zoo.

"As they treat each other as siblings they will lie on top of each other for heat and simply for affection.” He added.

Realizing the need of their staying together the authority made an enclosure for them. Unfortunately, the government passed new federal regulations requiring big cat enclosures to have 16 foot fences put up, which would take effect in October of this year. Baloo, Leo and Shere Khan's fence was only 8 feet high. If these regulations weren't met, the three animals would have to split up.

The rebuilding of the fence would cost almost half a million dollar.

They won a contest called crowd rise gaining 85k and gained $362,269 through crowd raising. The installment company even agreed to discount the price of the new fence.

So the ‘brothers’ got their home back.

Rudyard Kipling would be pride to see his imagination coming true and a leaf of his book has become real, Like his great creation of the Jungle Book, the story is a great lesson for ‘homo sapiens’ to live with harmony and respect and love diversity.
