For obvious reasons the 2010 Toyota Corolla Axio is one of the country’s best-selling vehicles. Since its debut more than four decades ago, the Corolla has become identical with reliability.
Especially designed for the Japanese domestic market; it is available with only one engine variation in our country. Powered by a 1.5litre engine, which produces 110Hp coupled up with a Super CVT-i (Super Continuously Variable Transmission-intelligent) transmission that provides exceptional cruising performance. The Corolla Axio has adopted a light weight and highly rigid body which as a result made the passenger compartment a lot quieter and also gave it a more aerodynamic feel. Inside the cabin, the backseat floor hump has been minimised to create flat-surfaced legroom, which according to Toyota is very comfortable for sitting three fully grown adults. Meanwhile the driver gets a steering wheel with a telescopic function that allows its position to be adjusted, front to rear. The wheel is complemented by a comfortable seat for a pleasant driving experience. The key components of the front and rear suspensions have also been optimally tuned to provide speedy manoeuvring and cruising stability, as well as a comfortable ride. The Axio has a fuel efficiency of 12km/l and yet manages to do 0-100km/h in less than 11 seconds.
The Axio not only looks good but it drives well, and to sum it up, it has a pretty adequate performance as well. No wonder people all over the world seem to like it. But if the buyers do venture over to the local Nissan or Honda dealers for a few test-drives, they are most likely to realise that the Corolla is far from the class leader it once was. By any stretch of the imagination, it’s not a bad car but over time its rivals have gone better, while Toyota stood there
doing nothing.
