Three missing in trawler capsize in Padma

Three people went missing after a trawler capsized on the Padma river near a ferry terminal in Daulatdia union of Goalondo upazila, Rajbari.

The incident occurred at around 10pm on July 30, police said.

Assistant sub-inspector of Goalondo police station Abu Taleb said the trawler, carrying seven wedding attendants, capsized due to a strong river current off the terminal point. Out of the seven, three went missing.

They were identified as Abdur Razzaque,30, Md Rafiqul Islam,50, and Md Shamim Mia,53. One survivor, Asif Ali, described how the incident happened.

"We were returning home to the Daulatpur upazila of Manikganj after attending a wedding at the Char Daulatdia area. Suddenly, a large wave crashed on our trawler and overturned it. It sank instantly. Four of us managed to survive, but three couldn't make it."

When contacted, Station Master Rajkumer Das of Rajbari civil service and fire brigade station said they couldn't launch a rescue operation in time as they were not informed by the police.
