Mobile operator Banglalink is upgrading its network to launch 4G services for high speed internet.
Over the next three years, the company will invest $1 billion here, out of which more than half will be exclusively for network upgrade, said a press release from Banglalink.
One year ago, one of the company's partners successfully tested the network for 4G and recently started converting SIMs to 4G, it said.
Currently 90% of Banglalink's sites have been brought under 3G coverage and within this year the rest will be upgraded as well, the release said.
Banglalink Chief Technology Officer Pierre Boutros Obeid said: “We believe that offering digital services is the path to the future and 4G technology is the key to enable us to offer these services.”
Banglalink has been operating in Bangladesh for past twelve years.
