Thursday’s massive fire in the Hashem Food Ltd factory in Rupganj, Narayanganj has left 52 people dead and more than 50 others injured.
Most of the victims were women and children, who worked in the factory.
Firefighters on Saturday afternoon officially wrapped up the rescue operation after 47 hours of efforts to douse the flames completely and find more victims or survivors.
The flames and smokes were completely doused between Friday night and Saturday morning.
The injured, most of whom sustained severe burns, are undergoing treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) and another hospital at Rupganj.
While authorities in both places have managed to identify and hand over three dead bodies to their families, the rest of the deceased are yet to be identified as they had completely burnt to an unidentifiable state.
The dead bodies are currently kept at the morgues at DMCH and Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital (ShSMC). Health officials are collecting DNA samples from the families with a missing person complaint to determine the identities of the deceased.
