The nation is observing the country's 49th Independence Day on Tuesday. The public holiday is being observed by the public, the government, and different socio-cultural and political organizations through elaborate programs.
Each year, this occasion refreshes the resolution to uphold the spirit of the 1971 Liberation War and build a “Sonar Bangla” as dreamt of by Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. The crackdown on unarmed Bangalees—on midnight of March 25—was answered with a declaration of independence by the Father of the Nation.
Heartfelt tributes are being paid to the martyrs and veterans of the Liberation War at the National Memorial in Savar; the main venue of the celebration.
