In a significant statement about India's foreign policy, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar reaffirmed on Thursday that the Indian government has demonstrated its unwavering commitment to never leave its people behind during crises, exemplified by successful evacuation operations in Sudan and Ukraine.

Jaishankar spoke about Operation Kaveri, a commendable evacuation mission carried out to rescue Indian nationals from Sudan during armed clashes between the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and Rapid Support Forces (RSF). A total of 4075 Indian nationals were safely evacuated from Sudan. The operation involved bringing Indian citizens from different conflict zones to Port Sudan and then transporting them to Jeddah using Indian Air Force aircraft and Indian Naval ships.

During Operation Kaveri, as well as during Operation Ganga in Ukraine last year, India not only rescued thousands of its citizens but also extended assistance in the evacuation of citizens from other countries seeking aid. The efforts of Indian diplomats and armed forces were particularly praiseworthy, showcasing exemplary courage amidst the challenging circumstances, including the difficulties of landing aircraft during active firing.

Jaishankar emphasized that India's commitment to its citizens extends beyond its borders and crisis situations. As part of India's Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) operations, the country provided medical supplies and relief materials to the people of Myanmar affected by Cyclone Mocha. Additionally, India donated 25 tons of medical aid to Sudan and supplied the first tranche of 10,000 metric tons of wheat to Afghanistan through Chabahar Port, with more shipments underway.

India also demonstrated its support for other nations by providing essential medicines, including anti-cancer drugs, anti-TB drugs, and anti-Retroviral drugs to various countries, as well as medical equipment such as Haemodialysis chairs and operation theatre accessories to Palau.

Jaishankar's statement highlighted India's steadfast commitment to humanitarian efforts, rescue operations, and support for countries facing crises or disasters, reiterating India's role as a responsible global partner.
