Brac University signs MoU with California Northstate University

For the first time in Bangladesh’s history, Brac University’s Department of Pharmacy is offering an international Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree programme to its undergraduate pharmacy students.

The PharmD degree is a professional doctorate degree which takes four years to complete. This is the first collaboration and joint PharmD programme of its kind in the country, according to a press release.

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been signed between the Department of Pharmacy and the California Northstate University College of Pharmacy (CNUCOP) recently.  

A virtual open house was held to introduce the students to the new BPharm - PharmD Pathway Program.

The six-year long undergraduate programme begins with two years at Brac University's Pharmacy Department, followed by four years at California Northstate University (CNU)

Students who successfully complete the programme will receive a PharmD certificate from CNUCOP.

A panel of speakers from BRAC university spoke at the event, including Professor Dr Eva Rahman Kabir, chairperson DoP, Professor Dr Hasina Yasmin, deputy chair, DoP, Professor Dr Sultan Hafeez Rahman, member, BoT, Dr David Dowland, registrar, Professor Dr Ahmed Mushtaque Raza Chowdhury, convenor, Bangladesh Education Watch and Bangladesh Health Watch and former vice-chair, BRAC, and Professor Dr Samia Huq, dean of general education and professor of anthropology.

The speakers from CNUCOP were Dean Dr Xiaodong Feng, Professor Dr Fakhrul Ahsan, Assistant Dean of Accreditation and Program Development Dr Ashim Malhotra, and Assistant Dean of Student Affairs Dr Olivia Phung.

A number of prestigious guests from pharmaceutical companies and Bangladeshi research institutes attended the event as well.
