The BBC has nominated Mirabai Chanu as one of the five prominent sports personalities for the next edition of the prestigious BBC Indian Sports Woman of the Year award.
Mirabai Chanu has been included for weightlifting, Sakshee Malik and Vinesh Phogat for wrestling, PV Sindhu for badminton, and Nikhat Zareen for boxing are among the nominees in the fourth edition of this award.
Mirabai Chanu is the only woman from Northeast India to be nominated for this prestigious award.
According to Rupa Jha, the organisation's India Head, the winner of this award will be announced on March 5.
She also announced that, in addition to the Indian Sports Woman of the Year award, an iconic sportswoman would receive the Lifetime Achievement award.
There will also be awards given to the Indian Para Sportswoman of the Year and the Indian Emerging Player of the Year, as per reports.
