Academicians and health experts have stressed increasing awareness among parents so that their children are protected from Covid-19 even at home following the announcement of the closure of educational institutions across the country.

Public health expert Dr MH Chowdhury (Lenin) on Friday urged the government to launch awareness campaigns to educate parents on how to keep their children safe.

Earlier in the day, the government announced the closure of all educational institutions for two weeks in light of the spike in Covid cases.

Criticizing the move, educationist Rasheda K Chowdhury said that the government was not following Unesco’s call that urged authorities across the world to close educational institutions last and to reopen first.

She blamed non-compliance with hygiene rules for the sudden spike in Covid cases in the country. The educationist advised the government to reopen educational institutions step by step after two weeks.

Meanwhile, authorities of educational institutions and parents have also expressed concerns over the closure of educational institutions.

Talking to Dhaka Tribune, they said that such a move would create an adverse impact in the education sector as educational institutions remained closed throughout the past two years as well.
