Deserving of more than flowers and praise

This Mother's Day, choose to see her, and the lifelong sacrifices she made to empower your future

Update : 11 May 2025, 09:49 AM

Each Mother’s Day, we pause -- not just to celebrate, but to stand in awe of the silent strength, boundless sacrifice, and unshakable resilience that define motherhood.

More often than not, their role is one that tends to go unnoticed, overshadowed by the hustle and bustle of daily life. Yet, it is not possible to deny the profound impact mothers create, not only on their families, but also on society at large.

The hands that rock the cradle are the same ones that shape the world. Through their steadfast love, quiet sacrifices, and tireless commitment, mothers nurture future leaders, thinkers, and changemakers.

Dedication to education

One of the most profound yet underappreciated contributions mothers make is in the education of their daughters. Across cultures and generations, countless mothers have paused or even relinquished their own careers and ambitions to ensure their daughters receive the opportunities they were denied. This is not just a sacrifice -- it is a generational act of empowerment.

The journey of education begins long before a child steps into a classroom. Mothers are the first teachers -- instilling values, curiosity, resilience, and love. They continue to nurture and guide, even when it means standing in the background, allowing their children to shine.

During a daughter’s most critical formative years, many mothers choose to give up job promotions, personal growth, and rest, as she redirects all her energy to ensure that her daughter’s academic journey is not just supported but uplifted.

By dedicating themselves to their daughters’ education, mothers take the first, pivotal step toward creating a more equitable world, one where opportunities are not determined by gender or social status.

Shaping future change

A mother’s influence on daughters goes far beyond academics. They shape emotional intelligence, instill empathy, model compassion, and build moral character. The strong, capable women of tomorrow carry the legacy of their mothers’ lessons in every step they take.

Their sacrifice sometimes hides behind the veil of daily routines; however, it shapes not only their daughters’ futures but also the very fabric of society.

This decision is often rooted in a vision -- a collective desire to break the cycle of gender disparity and limited opportunities that women have endured. By doing so, mothers plant the seeds of equity. They create a path not only for their daughters but for generations to come.

An educated daughter becomes an empowered woman -- confident, independent, and capable of driving change. She becomes an agent of herself and of progress, able to break barriers her mother once faced.

None of this would be possible without the silent, often unseen dedication of the mothers who stood behind her. Therefore, the ripple effect of a mother’s sacrifice is multifold.

Mothers lay the foundation on which strong families and dynamic nations are built.  From their unconditional devotion to their personal sacrifices, mothers are genuinely the unsung architects of society’s future.

A Mother's Day reclaimed

This Mother's Day, let us take a moment to honour their resilience, their sacrifices, and their endless love.

Let us go beyond celebration -- let us commit. Whether she is a working professional or a homemaker, every mother deserves the dignity of balance, the space to thrive, and the peace she so often sacrifices for others.

As we honour their strength, sacrifices, and unwavering love this Mother’s Day, may we also pledge to build a world where mothers are not just appreciated, but empowered.
