Green mobile award shows value of sustainablity

Update : 27 Feb 2014, 07:55 PM

Grameenphone has won the GSMA’s “Green Mobile Award” for its climate change programme at the 19th Annual Global Mobile awards in Barcelona.

This is one of six prestigious awards selected from over 680 entries by from leading mobile and technology companies around the world.

We hope this significant achievement will encourage businesses across all sectors in Bangladesh to incorporate sustainable and eco-friendly policies into their operations.

The Global Mobile Awards showcase outstanding innovation and creative products and services across the mobile phone industry. This year’s “Green Mobile Award” recognises the company’s efforts to reduce its environmental impact by enabling more efficient energy use and reducing its CO2 emissions.

Businesses in Bangladesh will do well to pay attention to this trend and incorporate sustainable practices in their operations, not only for the greater good but also to be competitive in the global marketplace.

In an emerging economy such as Bangladesh sustainable development and environmental issues often take a second seat to cutting costs and profitability. However, this strategy sacrifices the future for short-term gain.

Thankfully, a shift is starting to happen at the global level and sustainability is becoming a sought-after value across all sectors. The example of Grameenphone shows that it is possible for Bangladeshi businesses to be profitable while remaining true to sustainability goals such as fighting climate change.
