While it is tempting for many to have reactionary takes on the previous regime and display intention to eliminate every undertaking taken by them, this would be a grave error.
In fact, we have been here many times before in our history: One party does plenty of good work which is then completely discarded by the winners of the subsequent election. It is the nation which loses out in this cyclical nature of discarding progress.
At this stage in our nation’s history, harbouring hopes of bringing about change, it is time to put aside such pettiness and dismissal.
While the previous regime is unquestionably guilty of many things that have left the nation crippled, economically and otherwise, to write off everything they have done as bad does the nation a disservice.
Landmark undertakings such as the focus on digitization and policies that have strengthened our economy, must not be allowed to be shut down and tossed aside simply because they are associated with the previous regime - which hijacked such initiatives and politicized them for serving their selfish agendas.
Indeed, the hope is that such projects, initiatives, and entire institutions can finally operate as they were meant to - for the good of the nation and not to serve political agendas of those in power.
For too long, there have been those who have been held back from doing their jobs and instead needed to appease powerful individuals who held control over these projects and institutions with an iron fist.
Bangladesh’s ultimate goal - that of becoming an equitable and prosperous nation - does not change. With new hope and energy in the nation, we must preserve all of the good that has occurred over the past 15 years, and utilize it to fulfil our ambitions.
