Ensuring a steady supply of vaccines

Update : 21 Dec 2021, 09:52 AM

It is good news that Bangladesh has received a total of 5 million doses of Covid-19 vaccines from different sources.

Bangladesh has ramped up its vaccination drive ever since the end of the last lockdown, and it is good to see that the government is continuing to procure vaccines, and that too from multiple sources. The government faced a shortage of Covid-19 vaccines when it relied on a singular source, but have since recovered and rectified this mistake. Alongside setting up vaccination sites throughout the nation, the authorities have been pro-active about sourcing vaccines from multiple countries, and they have been pro-active about approving booster shots as well, something a lot of developing nations have been failing to do so far.

This is a trend that has to be kept up. With new variants of the virus emerging, it should be pretty clear that the only way out of this pandemic is total vaccination for the world’s population. On a local scale, that means that the entire population of our country needs to be vaccinated. And while our Western counterparts are entertaining the implementation of more drastic measures following the new wave of Omicron infections, that is something we cannot afford due to the realities of our economic conditions.

Thus, it is good that the government has kept up its efforts to keep procuring vaccines. Let’s make sure that this is continued, and we don’t face any more roadblocks on the path to recovery.
