Ties with Argentina becoming a reality

The strengthening of this friendship will be  beneficial for Bangladesh

Update : 27 Feb 2023, 10:17 PM

It is encouraging news that the Argentine embassy in Bangladesh is set to be inaugurated once again after 45 years of being inactive.

The Argentine Foreign Minister, Santiago Cafiero, arrived in Dhaka on Monday to reinstate the embassy and discuss possible avenues of cooperation between the two nations.

The FIFA World Cup season last year gave way to a friendship being formed between Bangladesh and Argentina, with Bangladeshi fans garnering attention for their support and devotion towards the Argentine national football team.

It was certainly promising that the occasion reopened the doors for partnership between both nations. The Argentine Foreign Minister Santiago Cafiero had expressed plans to reopen their embassy in Bangladesh, and it is good to see their words being put into effect immediately.

Argentina and Bangladesh have huge untapped potential in terms of trade diversification, and the reopening of the embassy can be just what we need to make the process easier, and benefit both countries on their roads to progress.

Recent trade figures suggest the immense trade opportunities, with bilateral trade amounting to $765 million, and Argentina recording a trade surplus of $720.8m in 2022.

The strengthening of this friendship will, no doubt, be extremely beneficial for Bangladesh, considering its ambitions to become a middle-income country very soon, and being part of the strategy that will propel it to reach the status of a developed nation by 2041.

It is heartening that our government is steadfast on its aim to cultivate long-lasting friendships with nations across the world. We have set ambitious goals for ourselves as a country, and these relationships will certainly be an advantage.
