To underestimate the barbarity of man is folly, a stark reminder of which is November 3.
47 years ago, Bangladesh witnessed one of its grimmest days as four of Bangladesh's founding leaders were mercilessly assassinated, which left an indelible stain on our psyche.
Syed Nazrul Islam, Tajuddin Ahmed, Mansur Ali, and AHM Quamruzzaman were nothing if not vital to our struggle for independence and they were among our Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman's most trusted people. These four men were the architects of the modern Bangladesh and they perished in the land whose sovereignty they fought for.
The four leaders played a key role in forming the Mujibnagar government in exile, that led the Liberation War in 1971, with Syed Nazrul Islam as the acting president, Tajuddin Ahmad as the prime minister, Mansur Ali as the finance minister and AHM Quamruzzaman as the home, relief and rehabilitation minister.
The four were assassinated as they were left vulnerable within the walls of Dhaka Central Jail on November 3, 1975, which makes the crime all the more heinous and all the more tragic.
The incumbent government's efforts to bring their killers to book has been nothing if not ceaseless, however, a few of these wicked and evil men have yet to face justice to this day, which is a tragedy unto itself.
But, even though they may run free for now, the long arm of justice will not be far behind.
For now, let us take this opportunity to mourn the ones who were so harshly and hastily taken away from us and remember everything they'd done to free this country from the tyranny of the brutal Pakistani regime.
