A job well done

We mustn’t allow this destructive virus to incapacitate us again

Update : 24 Jul 2022, 12:12 PM

Covid-19 has caused a multitude of obstacles for the world at large, claiming an unfortunate number of lives, and has especially set us back in terms of economic development for two years.

While matters finally seemed to have settled, the fourth wave of the deadly virus causing the growing number of cases is certainly cause for caution. The total number of infections recorded in Bangladesh since the pandemic first hit crossed 2 million, with over 800 new cases recorded in 24 hours till Thursday.

It is important to note, however, that Bangladesh has done a remarkable job at containing the virus and carrying out drives and programs to curb its spread. Since last year, we have seen a number of vaccine drives being organized and carried out by the authorities, which has significantly reduced the chances of Covid-19 infections and deaths.

Another successful three-day vaccine drive came to an end on July 21, resulting in over 8 million second and booster doses of vaccines being administered.

While it is certainly reassuring to see the government continue to actively deal with the matter, we must not allow for complacency to set in on our parts. As the authorities pro-actively take preventative measures to limit the risks, citizens must also adhere to the safety measures, get vaccinated, and do their part in making sure the threat of the virus is contained.

The coronavirus has wreaked havoc across the globe, the ripples of which we will continue to experience for years to come.

We mustn’t allow this destructive virus to incapacitate us again.
