Ever since 2008, Bangladesh has placed greater emphasis on digitizing the nation. Indeed, with “Digital Bangladesh” being at the heart of everything, this effort towards digitization has meant that the ICT industry in Bangladesh has seen particular prioritization.
To that end, the fact that a Bangladeshi tech company, Reve Chat, is providing the Mexican government with access to information-based services with its AI-enabled chat-bots is testament to the work that has been done over the past decade and a half in ensuring the legitimacy of Bangladesh’s tech sector, which continues to grow.
It is not only a matter of pride that Bangladesh is providing technology support to a more affluent nation such as Mexico, but as far as services offered, this is just the trajectory we want to see. For too long, the RMG industry has been the one dominant global product offered by Bangladesh.
And while the RMG industry will continue to play an integral role as Bangladesh climbs the rungs of the economic ladder, a diversification of its exports, and especially a shift towards more modern and high-skilled offerings, has been a need for a while now.
With Bangladesh’s growing tech and IT industry, the country can leverage the strides being made. We must take advantage of the growth of this industry, and realize that the global demand for our services can only increase if we have the right policies and incentives in place.
Simultaneously, it is equally important to encourage more and more of the youth to pursue a career in this field, as it not only aligns with the demands of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, but encourages the youth, who will be the leaders of tomorrow, to have the right know-how and skills to navigate the future, one that will continue to be exponentially dictated by technological advancements.
