Keeping the lights on

Our energy sector will need to keep up with our ever-expanding economy

Update : 12 Aug 2022, 11:38 PM

One of the key measures of sustainable economic growth is ensuring a sturdy infrastructural apparatus for the support of such an economy -- with one of the key pieces being support for the energy sector.

The recent global energy crisis has also shed light on the gap that Bangladesh needs to fulfill as well. As such, the news of a high-profile delegation from Saudi Arabia coming to Bangladesh to discuss cooperation in the energy sector is encouraging indeed.

Bangladesh has been collaborating with a number of countries to prop up our energy generation endeavours. We are already working with Russia to build the country’s first nuclear power plant. We are also collaborating with India on the construction of coal-based power generation plants and the sharing of energy. Local and international conglomerates are also stepping up to invest in green and sustainable energy generation methods.

With all of these projects in the pipeline, the future of Bangladesh looks bright.

Aside from discussions on energy, the Saudi Arabian delegation has expressed interest in a long-term strategic plan for our economy. This, coupled with the country’s interest in our energy sector, stands as a testament to the tremendous improvement that our diplomatic wing has undergone over the past year in expanding our bilateral ties with a host of nations.

Our energy sector will need to keep up with our ever-expanding economy. For that, we will need to keep building and nurturing further bilateral relations. Bangladesh is on the verge of greatness. We should make it bright enough for the light to reach everyone in the country.
