A recent story makes it clear that even police officers are not safe from sexual harassment at work.
The solution could lie in making sure that 50% of all new recruits in the police force are women. This would likely solve not only the problems of rape and sexual harassment within the force, but would also mean that crimes of sexual violence against women would finally be treated with due seriousness.
Women should not have to be afraid of reporting crimes, and having more women on the force would reduce or eliminate the sexist bias that now prevails in police investigations.
Furthermore, every police station should also have a dedicated room -- not merely a desk -- run by female police officers, where women feel comfortable coming in to report crimes.
