ED: Every killer of Bangabandhu must be brought to justice

The people of Bangladesh demand justice for his assassination

Update : 15 Aug 2020, 08:51 PM

August 15, 1975 saw the darkest day in Bangladesh’s history, as Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was brutally assassinated along with the rest of his family at his residence in Dhanmondi 32.

Forty-five years have passed since that fateful day. While most of the conspirators responsible for such a heinous act have since faced justice, there remain some who are yet to be brought to justice and made to pay for such an unforgivable crime.

Among the five killers who still roam free, three are unknown, while two currently reside in the US and Canada.

While there has been a task force created specifically to locate and bring back these criminals, the force has supposedly not met in two years -- this is not the sort of seriousness that is expected from a special task force whose only job is to try and bring these people to justice.

To that end, Law Minister Anisul Huq’s recent statements suggesting that work is underway is somewhat reassuring. However, there remains no trace of three of the killers, and the task force has to move with more certainty if it is to locate them and bring them back to Bangladesh.

The loss of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman set Bangladesh back many years, and his leadership would have propelled Bangladesh to even greater heights. The people of Bangladesh demand justice for his assassination, and this will not be possible until every single person responsible for his assassination is made to face justice.
