Any signs of hope that the spread of Covid-19 was easing has been proven to be presumptuous; with deaths having passed 650,000 worldwide, and the number of infections showing few signs of slowing down, there is no reason to relax.
What is even more worrisome is the fact that countries who had previously appeared to have fought the coronavirus and curbed its spread -- such as China and certain European nations -- are seeing new spikes of infection, confirming fears of the second wave that has always been proclaimed by the medical experts.
The novel nature of Covid-19 means that the world continues to learn more about it every single day, but what appears to be clear by now is that the pandemic is here to stay; there is no timeline on a vaccine that is still in development, and as such, people all around the world must treat it with the seriousness that it has always warranted.
This means strictly adhering to the directives as prescribed by health experts. Chief among these directives include washing hands regularly with soap and water for 20 seconds, limiting any and all social gatherings and crowds in general, and in the absolute need to go outside, always do so wearing a mask of any sort.
It has been the world’s lackadaisical approach to Covid-19 that aggravated its effects to what it is today. It is paramount to ensure that lessons have been learned, and that all nations of the world, including Bangladesh, now address the severity of this deadly pandemic and do all that is possible to halt it.
