We stand with Egypt

As if there were any doubt left, IS has once again shown its true colours by attacking a place of religious worship. Some 235 people were killed in a hateful and cowardly attack on Rawda mosque, situated in Egypt’s North Sinai provice -- a place that was packed with Sufi worshippers. Try as they may to convince the world that they are on a religious mission, IS’s continued attacks on holy places, including mosques for Muslims, show that they are nothing but terrorists, plain and simple, and represent the furthest thing from any sort of religious teaching. IS’s Egypt branch has, over the years, killed not only many Sufis and Christians, but also hundreds of policemen, soldiers, and innocent civilians working with authority figures. In these troubled times, Egypt needs to stay united against the forces of hate and terror -- and our prayers go out to the families of the victims. Defeating IS is not just a concern for Egypt, but for the whole world, as we have seen time and again that terror knows no borders. Egypt’s military deserves praise for promptly springing into action -- striking at terrorist outposts and successfully destroying some of the vehicles that were responsible in carrying out these attacks, and in the process killing a number of terrorists. The Egyptian government has said it is responding to IS with brute force, and at a time like this, nothing else will do. We hope Egypt stays steadfast in its resolve to defeat terror, and we stand with them in this fight.
