As the conversations about the climate crisis raise questions about sustainability and the culpability of the fashion industry, one organization has spent the better part of the past decade in providing some much-needed answers. The Fashion Design Council of Bangladesh (FDCB) has been tirelessly calling for a return to the roots, by promoting slow fashion, organic handloom, and showcasing the potential of our textile heritage through their annual Khadi festivals and related events.
The organization’s founder and president, designer Maheen Khan herself has been the loudest voice in this discussion, with line after line from her fashion house Mayasir by Maheen Khan demonstrating ingenious ways in which centuries-old traditions can remain on the cutting edge of fashion in a way that is in harmony with Nature.
For this winter season, Mayasir has launched a capsule collection of fashionable winter outerwear. These hand-stitched quilted coats, jackets and shawls come in a range of beautiful winter shades, from slate grey and sand, to coral red, to marsala and forest green, and of course, the quintessential black. With contemporary cuts and silhouettes, and fun, printed lining, piping and details, each piece seamlessly merges artisanal quilting work with modern sensibilities.
