Update : 27 Nov 2013, 06:09 PM

Theatre troupe Arindam Natyo Shomproday, Chittagong will stage Kobi at the Experimental Hall at 7pm on Thursday. The play has been supported by Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy and Bangladesh Group Theatre Federation. The play is an adaptation of leading Bengali novelist Tarasankar Bandyopadhyay’s classic novel of same title.

The script has been written by Symon Zakaria and the production is directed by Shamim Hasan.

Tarasankar, a wizard of a storyteller has knitted two stories together, as only a master writer can.

At first, it talks about a youth named Nitai, who ends up being a prolific writer from a folk singer.

The story then goes on to potray the happiness and struggle of a troupe named Jhumur Dal, who entertains the local people with music and dance. Through their performances, the troupe’s agony could be noticed vividly.

Basanta is a rural singer from the troupe and through this character, Tarasankar has successfully naratted the hardships of the Jhumur Dal. Struggling to survive with the bare minimum, Basanta dies of  pulmonary disease. It also showcases the controversial love triangle between Nitai, Thakur Jhi and Basanta.
