Actor and Director Rawnak Hasan plays the role of a transsexual for the first time in a telefilm named “Eider Natok.” Directed by Ripon Mia and produced by Jahid Hasan, the play will be aired during Eid-ul-Azha.
The talented artiste shares his new experiences in portraying a transsexual and other recent ventures with the Dhaka Tribune:
How challenging was it for you?
When I was first offered to play the role, I became very confused since I have never interacted with people whose sexual orientation is not straight.
But I decided to take on the challenge and tried my best. I hope the audience will appreciate my work.
What kind of background research did you conduct before playing this challenging character?
Before shooting, I saw an array of interviews given by late Indian filmmaker Rituporno Ghosh. He was my inspiration for how to play the role of a transsexual. I noticed the ways he talked, walked and his various gestures.
Tell us about your Eid projects.
I have worked in Golam Sarwar Dodul’s “Moyurrakkhi Tumi Dile,” Golam Surjo Ahmed’s “Shopno Dekhbo Bole,” Jahidul Islam’s “Out of Syllabus,” Shahin Polash’s “Kanchi,” Ripon Islam’s “Autoppor Ekti Mobile Phone” and many more. All my roles have different dimensions and I am working in almost a dozen TV plays and telefilms. Right now I am more or less done with all my recent ventures.
Which one is your favourite?
Actually, this Eid I was fortunate to get many interesting roles. Each one is special in its own way.
However, I would like to mention the name of the drama “Moyurakkhi Tumi Dile,” which is based on one of my favourite novels of all time, by Harsha Datta.
It is a story about a couple who go for a holiday with two of their male friends. Their friends get killed in an accident on the way home. After a few days, the woman says she is pregnant but the man knows it’s not his child. So the story moves forward with multiple snags.
