The 14th solo art exhibition titled “Prima Donna” by artist Preema Nazia Andaleeb is on at the Bengal Art Lounge. A total of 48 innovative and unique artworks are on display at the gallery and the viewers can enjoy and feel the temptation of Preema’s works until May 13. The exhibition will be open for all everyday from 12 to 8pm.
Preema Nazia Andaleeb has already established herself as a visual artist and made a prolific and prominent contribution in the art arena of Bangladesh.
There is a strong feminist side in her work, introvert by nature, but comes out as an inborn outburst of suppressed emotions as well as protest in the male dominated society.
Her advocacy has a tremendous interpretation of colour and composition, with which the viewers can easily communicate. In her recent works, half abstract compositions give a vibe of expressionism and titles like “Casting Couch,” “Objectified,” and “Castle in the Sky” speak for themselves by the dexterity of colour as well as the subject chosen by the artist.
The nude female figures illustrated in her works speak for the freedom of women while the loud colours symbolises boldness and remonstration against the patriarchal social system. The subjective manifestation of inner emotions that turns out to be an objective of the cognition of creativity is by far the utmost achievement of the artist.
Speaking about her works, the artist commented: “I just follow my instinct and in the process, I try to experience each and everything that connects to my visual interactions. Art to me is a tool, which encourages me to celebrate life. I am not concerned about any particular style, because I believe artworks have a timeless dimension.”
The exhibition was inaugurated at the Art Lounge (60 Gulshan Avenue, ground floor, Gulshan -1, Dhaka) by Dr Gowher Rizvi, international affairs advisor to the Prime Minister. The special guest of the occasion was Enayetullah Khan, chairman of Cosmos Group. Eminent artist Murtaja Baseer, the artist herself and the director of Bengal Gallery Subir Chowdhury have also spoken on the occasion.
