Author Kazi Shahid Ahmed’s fourth novel, Opekkha, was launched at the Abdul Karim Shahitya Bisharod auditorium of Bangla Academy. At the launching ceremony of the book, the author spoke enthusiastically about his zeal for writing and how more people should embrace the craft. Kazi Shahid Ahmed considers writing as an “immense source of joy”, and expressed his desire to continue writing for the next two decades.
The book was unveiled at a lively launching ceremony held on the 24th of January, where National Professor Dr Rafiqul Islam graced the occasion as the chief guest. The welcome address was delivered by Kazi Inam Ahmed, member of Board of Directors, Gemcon Group. Moderated by poet Shamim Reza, the ceremony also saw folklorist Shamsuzzaman Khan as special guest, along with the presence of Habibullah Shirajee, Director General of Bangla Academy. Fiction writer Parvez Hossain spoke highly of the author’s meticulous attention to detail while writing the manuscript. The book has been published by Kagoj Prokashon.
In addition to his prolific writing career, Kazi Shahid Ahmed is also the Chairman of Gemcon Group. His first novel titled Bhairab was published five years ago and was subsequently translated into English. Pasha and Daate Kata Pencil are his second and third novels respectively. Opekkha is a novel that examines human nature through the depiction of a complex love triangle.
