The British Council presents certificates to teachers

Update : 01 Nov 2015, 12:57 PM

The British Council organised a Certificate Award Ceremony for teachers at cadet colleges on October 29. The ceremony recognised 120 teachers from 12 cadet colleges who have completed a teacher training course, which is further enhancing the cadet colleges’ reputation as the best providers of education in Bangladesh.

The project was conducted in partnership with the British High Commission and Defence Ministry of Bangladesh. It was formally launched in January 2014 with 60 teachers, with an aim to improve the teaching and learning quality in all Cadet Colleges. This is achieved by delivering pedagogic training to all teachers. The project aims to train a total of 384 teachers by 2016. This ceremony officially certified 120 teachers who have successfully completed the training program.

The trainees consisted of English teachers and subject teachers. The English teachers followed the British Council’s Certificate in Secondary English Language Teaching (CiSELT), with the aim of improving methodology and making classes more learner-centered. The subject teachers followed the British Council’s Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL) essentials course.

Nurul Islam Nahid, MP, Minister of Education, graced the event as chief guest. He said in his speech: “We are delighted to work with The British Council in developing excellence in education standards in cadet colleges of Bangladesh. We hope that the UK will continue to help us improve the standard of education, considering they have a global reputation for excellence in the field of education.”

Major General Md Mahfuzur Rahman, Adjutant General of the Bangladesh Army, and Mark Clayton, Deputy British High Commissioner to Bangladesh, attended the event as special guests. Barbara Wickham, Director, British Council Bangladesh, was also present at the ceremony.

In his speech, Md Mahfuzur Rahman said: “The British Council has made a remarkable contribution in bringing a modern and positive approach to refresh the traditional teaching techniques of the cadet colleges. We are sincerely looking forward to continue the partnership in the future days to come.”
