It was one of those dream holidays with beaches that looked like they’d been ripped out of a holiday brochure - white sands, turquoise seas, swaying palms, fresh coconuts, idyllic beach villas and endless sunshine.
We chose Malindo airlines to travel to the Maldives from Bangladesh which included a layover in Sri Lanka, and then a three-hour flight to Male. Maldives is a small country located in the Indian Ocean, exactly on the equator south of Sri Lanka, and has 1,190 islands scattered into 26 ring-shaped atolls. To issue a visa, you do not need to worry because it can be obtained upon arrival.
We arrived in Male, at almost 7 o'clock in the evening to be picked up by an employee of the resort before being ushered to the island by a speed boat. Unfortunately, the month in which I visited was not really good in terms of weather in Maldives. It is possible to travel to the resort by air but since we reached at night, we had to use a speed boat. By the time we reached our room, it was 11 in the night which made it impossible to see the sea. It was morning when I finally realised that I was surrounded by such beauty.
My son and husband were still sleeping but I opted to open the window blinds. The sight that stood before my eyes was too good to be true. Only a few metres from our bedroom, stood the most beautiful sight I've ever seen. It was just like the brochures - azure sky blue, turquoise green water and white sandy beach.
We had a quick breakfast, put on our swimsuits and ran for the beach. The pristine water lay just above the ankle, where we encountered a sting ray and small fishes swimming in the clear, blue sea.
Every picture you take on the Island nation looks great thanks to the beautiful scenic backdrop the place offers. The sea water is blocked by the atolls and is therefore, very calm. Maldives is also an attractive destination for scuba divers because of the beautiful coral reefs, sea caves, wrecks and other marine life that are native to the island country.

Taste the sweet life
With tropical climate and year round warm temperatures, you can be rest assured that you’ll find plenty of great fruits on offer in the Maldives. While much of the food is imported to keep up with the high demand of tourism, all the local offerings are just as tasty. Be sure to taste the amazing coconut water that will surely leave you feeling fresh. They are delicious and will promptly get you into the Island mood!

Visit a local island
The island nation consists a total of 1,192 islands – among them, 200 are inhabited by locals, while another 80 islands are home to resorts and operate solely for tourism. If you have time and are interested to see more of the local life, be sure to ask your resort to arrange a local island visit. We visited a small and scenic island named K Guraidhoo.

Catch every sunset
I set one rule heading into my trip to the Maldives –catch every sunrise and sunset. The sun rises early around 6am so you’ll need to start quite early each day, but this is a great opportinity to have the resort to yourself.
