Before we indulge into the latest rumours, hopefully soon-to-be facts, let’s keep one thing in mind – rumours are only rumours until they are proven to be true. No alternative facts here, Kellyanne. However, the latest buzz in the tech circle has been one of the longest we’ve had in a while. Apple is set to release three different models of the new iPhone later this year. There is the 10-year anniversary iPhone 8, leading the way for both the iPhone 7S and iPhone 7S Plus. I’m sure it’s obvious to all that the iPhone 8 will cost a ridiculous amount – it’s rumoured to be over $1,000. Go figure.
Apparently, one of the biggest differences between the new 7S and 8 is the latter’s body and build. Industry sources claim that the 8 might get a new glass and steel chassis, which we know is a first for the folks at Apple, regarding a much larger phone. The last time we saw a similar build was in the iPhone 4. The step-down models, 7S and 7S Plus, will most likely stick to the all-aluminium alloy chassis. This report was first spotted in DigiTimes.
It is said that the new iPhone 8 will actually have a curved OLED screen, an iris scanner, alongside other new and significant features never seen on an iPhone before. With that in lock, the usual upgraded version of their regular flagship phones will follow suit. However minor they may be, the iPhone 7S will be receiving many positive upgrades. The reason for the high price tag on the 8 is not only because of its 10th anniversary significance, but its very expensive OLED screen. It’s only a natural step that Apple takes in order to make the necessary upgrades to take on the Samsung Note 8, that is scheduled to come out in August of this year.
Even though the chassis build may differ from the “S” models and the new 8, this could be seen as a more affordable option for first time buyers and Apple fans alike. What we know so far about the new devices are the bare minimum. The 7S is said to have the 4.7-inch display, the 7S Plus is 5.5 inches and the new iPhone 8 will be a 5.8-inch device. Again, none of these new features are revolutionary, as we’ve seen beautifully designed phones in the Android market. Although, it goes to show that iPhones haven’t fallen too far off the throne, sitting pretty up on that smartphone hill. Well, we’ll really sink our teeth into more information once they reveal the new models this September.
