Update : 30 May 2025, 04:31 PM

Atmosphere Eatery is the newest Japanese-Continental restaurant in town, where they serve Japanese cuisine alongside continental dishes.

Their menu features sushi platters, Japanese curries, ramen, and steaks to cater to diverse palates.

“I want to have an option for everyone. While I wanted to work with authentic Japanese and we serve that, we also serve continental to make sure that everyone who walks in has something to eat here," said founder Anis Ahmed.

Food

We started our meal with the ebi tempura. While fried shrimp tempura is a classic dish, their version was a letdown. The shrimp was coated in breaded batter and not tempura batter.

The expected light and crisp texture of the tempura was entirely missing. Instead, the heavy coating masked any sense of freshness. The dipping sauce didn’t significantly improve the dish, but it did provide a contrast to the otherwise dry tempura.

Then, we had the pearls of the sea, which featured an assortment of sushi rolls. The offerings ranged from salmon nigiri to maki and California rolls. While the rolls were well-crafted and fresh, the flavours were surprisingly similar. This was unexpected, as sushi rolls typically have distinct and noticeable differences that contribute to their variety. Due to this lack of distinctive qualities and nuances, we were unable to fully appreciate the authentic tastes of the rolls.

We next had the cheesy chicken with fried rice. The cheesy chicken was disappointing. It was dry, difficult to chew, and lacked moisture. The cheese, which should have been a standout, was barely there.  There was only one very thin layer drizzled on the side, and so the chicken felt incomplete.  However, the fried rice was well-cooked and served warm, making it the only redeeming dish of our meal.

Lastly, we tried the mango sticky rice, which was an unusual Thai addition to a Japanese-continental menu. While we thought the taste was okay, this version of the Thai classic didn't leave a lasting impression. to come through, The portioning too, was off. There was far too much sticky rice in comparison to the mangos. Overall, it lacked the sweetness and the contrasting texture that typically brings a good mango-sticky rice dessert together.

The large windows allow plenty of natural light to fill the space during the day. Additionally, the eatery features a live-kitchen sushi bar, where you can watch the chefs prepare your sushi right in front of you.

Challenges

Opened in March 2025 during Ramadan, atmosphere eatery’s biggest challenge is to stay consistent and stand out among other successful Japanese restaurants in Dhaka, according to founder Anis Ahmed.

“There are quite a few successful Japanese restaurants in Dhaka, and we’re new. So we need to stay consistent and stand out among others,” he said.

Being located in a particularly competitive area in Banani 11 adds to the thrill, according to Ahmed.

“There will be competition in Business. In fact, if I don't take this challenge, I will not be able to deliver anything good,” he added. “I always keep an eye on my competitors, and look at how they're progressing,” he further said.

The price hikes for imported ingredients and the political climate in Bangladesh is a cause for concern for Ahmed.

“We don't know how the prices and the rates will change given the political climate, It’s all a little unpredictable now. Especially the price hikes for our imported ingredients,” Ahmed added
